The Citizens hope to provide more competition for their number one keeper Ederson.

Manchester City are considering a move for Arminia Bielefeld’s Stefan Ortega.

A highly-rated keeper, Ortega has spent the last three years playing for Bielefeld. The German star’s current deal expires at the end of July, with Bayern Munich being among his suitors.

However, the Bavarians might face competition from the Premier League champions in their efforts to sign Ortega.

According to German outlet Kicker, Man City are keen to sign the 29-year-old as their number two goalkeeper this summer.

Pep Guardiola reportedly wants Ederson to have more competition in the squad, with Ortega being his favourite choice for a new keeper.

According to data from FBREF, Ortega made more saves than any other keeper in Bundesliga last season. The former Munich 1860 goalkeeper is also second in the league’s highest save percentage, sitting just below Freiburg’s Mark Flekken.

Ortega is reportedly keen to continue his career in the Premier League, despite strong interest from Bayern. The Bundesliga champions have been scanning the market to add a reliable number two keeper to their squad.

The Bavarians signed Alexander Nübel from Schalke in July 2020. However, Manuel Neuer’s incredible form forced him to join Monaco on a two-year loan deal last season. Let’s see if Bayern can prevent City from signing Ortega ahead of the next season.
