As we keep hearing rumors about Guardiola’s future, one of his defenders came out to urge him to remain at the club for many more years.
Even though he hasn’t been able to win the Champions League, Pep Guardiola did win the respect of this defender. We are talking about Nathan Ake, the Dutch centre-back who came to the club during the summer transfer window. He just arrived at the squad and he is already hearing rumors of Pep possibly leaving Manchester City.
There’s a certain level of trust that he builds with his players as soon as he gets in contact with them. Not many will have problems with the Catalan manager because they want to learn from him. Every single footballer who spends time in one of Pep’s teams, becomes a better player after the experience.
Ake feels his time with the Catalan coach is only starting and he obviously doesn’t like the idea of him leaving the institution. It’s possible that Guardiola will get sacked if he doesn’t win the Champions League this season. However, Ake doesn’t think not lifting this trophy will warrant him getting kicked out of the club.
Ake wants Guardiola at City for many years.
During a press conference reported by Manchester Evening News, Nathan Ake spoke about the reasons Pep Guardiola needs to stay. There have been several aspects of this manager that helped the club improve regardless of their achievements.
Ake said the following: “The manager has been so good for this club. That’s one of the reasons why I joined. It would be good [if he stayed]. Obviously it is up to him. So far we focus on this season and trying to do our best. He is trying to win titles as well so we focus on that first.
“His reputation with players is one of the reasons I came here to work under him and have seen already in the first few months that he works with players and me, shows me stuff I can improve, works with me on the pitch on that aspect.
“I feel like I am learning so that is a plus for me and that is one of the reasons I came. I see myself improving already and hopefully there is more to come.”
