The reigning English and European champions have now seen five of their players leave for new opportunities in the January transfer window.
Kalvin Phillips has become the fifth player to leave Manchester City during the January transfer window.
The 28-year-old midfielder has joined West Ham United on loan for the rest of the 2023/24 campaign. This deal does not include a buy option, leaving the player set to return to Manchester in the summer.
As part of the agreement, West Ham will cover Phillips’ reported £140,000-a-week salary and pay City a loan fee.

Why did Phillips leave the club?
Phillips has joined West Ham to get more chances to play. He wants to get back in shape and earn a place in the England team for this summer’s European Championship.
The former Leeds United star has only played 318 minutes of football this season in 10 games in all competitions. He played four times in the Premier League, but never as a starter.
Will Manchester City replace Phillips?
No, Manchester City are unlikely to look to replace Phillips before the winter transfer market closes.
The club’s manager, Pep Guardiola, told reporters on Thursday that he doesn’t think so during a press conference before Friday’s FA Cup game against Tottenham Hotspur in north London.
