During a recent interview, Manchester City’s chairman spoke about the club’s season and why he believes it was still remarkable.
Despite losing the UEFA Champions League final, Manchester City’s chairman is still proud of the team’s performance this season. When Khaldoon Al Mubarak took over the club over a decade ago, he explicitly stated that the Citizens would win five out of the next ten Premier League titles. He fulfilled his promise in great style with Pep Guardiola leading the way in the last three titles they won. Despite losing the Champions League against Chelsea last weekend, the chairman still considers this season an overwhelming triumph for the club.
The Sky Blue club still won the Premier League and the Carabao Cup in a comfortable fashion. Under Pep Guardiola, the team was just as dominant as the previous seasons they also won titles. Plus, there hasn’t been a blank campaign under the Catalan manager yet. This is the reason he decided to extend Pep’s contract for two more seasons in November of 2020. Mubarak is convinced this is the perfect way to keep moving forward and Guardiola is a central part of this success.
Mubarak is excited for Manchester City’s future.
The steps this club had to take since the new ownership arrived are going exactly as planned. Now that they tasted the Champions League final, we can say they have matured enough to keep trying to win the trophy next season. If the Citizens find an ideal Sergio Aguero replacement during the summer, Al Mubarak knows they will have another shot at glory.
In a recent interview published on Manchester City’s website, this is what the club’s chairman said to the fans: “[It was] a remarkable season by any description. But it’s also a culmination of years of hard work to reach a level of consistency, a level of expectations, that this club has reached now, which is a Club that will compete year in, year out. You can’t win every year, but year in, year out, we’re going to be there.”
