Despite being favorites to take home the European trophy from Gdansk, the Red Devils were sunk by the Yellow Submarines.

Manchester United “will come back stronger” after their Europa League heartbreak, insists Paul Pogba.

Edinson Cavani forced the Europa League final into extra time as he canceled out Gerard Moreno’s first-half strike in the second half, but Man United ended up finishing second best to Villarreal after a long-drawn penalty shootout.

2020/21 turned out to be yet another trophyless season for United, who finished second in the Premier League, went out of the FA Cup at the quarter-final stage, and suffered a semi-final exit in the Football League Cup. They also competed in the Champions League initially but couldn’t make it to the knockout stages and were demoted to Europe’s second-best club competition.

“I needed some days to reflect after the match,” the World Cup winner wrote in a Twitter post.

“Of course, very upset not to win the final but we’re a team that will look forward with our heads held high. Thank you to all of the fans for the support. We will come back stronger.”
