The Brazilian star is facing a ban amid United’s personnel in midfield.
Casemiro received a straight red card in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday.
The Brazil midfielder put his hand around Will Hughes’ neck, which convinced the referee to dismiss him after a VAR review.
The straight red card means Casemiro receives an automatic three-game suspension. The experienced midfielder will miss the following Premier League games:
08/02/23 – Manchester United vs Leeds
12/02/23 – Leeds vs Manchester United
19/02/23 – Manchester United vs Leicester
United will meet Barcelona in the Europa League between their matches against Leeds and Leicester. Casemiro will be able to play for Erik ten Hag’s side against the Catalans.
Speaking after the Palace clash, Ten Hag criticized the referee for his reaction to Casemiro’s foul.
“First of all, we have to deal with it and we will do, but it is not right,” Ten Hag replied.
“It shouldn’t have happened. And last week, VAR doesn’t do anything about the tackle [by Carroll on Eriksen], but this was avoidable and because in this incident there have to be consequences and they are inconsistent and that is not right, that is not fair against us.
“We have to think about [appealing]. But be fair, we have seen when you’re freezing [the frame], Casemiro is crossing the line. But many more players were crossing the line there.”
Casemiro’s absence will provide a perfect opportunity for Marcel Sabitzer to find his place in United’s lineup. The Austrian star arrived at Man Utd on a loan deal from Bayern Munich on the transfer window’s deadline day.
