The Red Devils will have to play most of the season’s remainder without the Danish midfielder.
Manchester United expect Christian Eriksen to stay sidelined for up to three months with an ankle injury.
The Red Devils midfielder limped off his side’s FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday. Following a crunching tackle from Andy Caroll, Eriksen played on for a couple of minutes but then left the pitch in pain.
Initial tests after the game showed the injury was more serious than initially expected. The club have now published a statement revealing their expected timeframe for Eriksen’s comeback.
A statement read: “Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen is expected to be out of action for an extended period because of an ankle injury sustained in our Emirates FA Cup victory over Reading on Saturday.
“While investigations are continuing, initial assessments indicate that Eriksen is likely to be out until late April or early May.”
Since joining Man Utd in the summer, Eriksen has been a key element of Erik ten Hag’s midfield setup. The 30-year-old’s absence will be a major blow to the Red Devils’ squad as they continue competing in four competitions.
Bayern Munich have reportedly made an offer to loan out Marcel Sabitzer to United until the end of the season. Let’s see if the Red Devils can complete a move for the Austrian star on the transfer window’s deadline day.
