The French defender limped off the pitch in United’s draw against Chelsea on Saturday.
Manchester United defender Raphael Varane will reportedly return in time to travel with France to the World Cup next month.
Varane suffered a thigh injury in the second half of United’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday. The Frenchman was visibly emotional when he was undergoing on-pitch treatment.
However, a new report claims the results of his MRI scan show he’ll be able to travel to Qatar with the world champions.
According to ESPN, Varane will complete his recovery in “three or four weeks”, which could see him return to action in World Cup.
However, the 29-year-old won’t be able to play for United until the Premier League’s return at the end of the year. But as we saw with Reece James’ injury earlier this month, the media’s speculation about injuries might turn out to be wrong.
The Red Devils are yet to publish an official report on Varane’s injury. Their manager, Erik ten Hag, hoped to have the test results back before his side’s upcoming Europa League clash against Sheriff Tiraspol on Thursday.
“It is difficult to say how it is now because it is so soon after the game,” Ten Hag told reporters after the Chelsea draw. “We have to wait 24 hours and then we will know what it is.”
He added: “I can understand, we can all probably understand he would be emotional [if he is out of the World Cup].
“But I think he also has to wait. You don’t know [how bad it is]. Of course he is experienced, but [the] medical [staff] have to do their job, have to make the assessment and set the right diagnosis, and then from there on can come to a conclusion.”
