The Portuguese superstar has heavily criticized the club in a conversation with Piers Morgan.

Raphael Varane has admitted Cristiano Ronaldo’s controversial interview has “affected” the Manchester United players.

Ronaldo’s full interview with Piers Morgan is yet to be fully released. However, published excerpts from the hour-long conversation include brutal criticisms of Man Utd’s hierarchy, Erik ten Hag, and former manager Ralf Rangnick.

Widespread reports in English media claim the Red Devils are furious with Ronaldo’s remarks. But Varane says CR7’s teammates are doing their best to decrease the tension in the dressing room.

“Obviously it affects us. We follow what is happening and what is being said,” he told Europe 1“We try to calm the situation in our own way, we try not to get too involved in it.”

He added: “What happens with the media is big clubs generate lots of momentum. When it’s a star like Cristiano Ronaldo, even more, so we try to take it with distance, that is to say that we do not try to change the situation alone, we are part of a collective.

“What I want is the best for my team so whatever the decision, as a player, we will accept it and give the best of ourselves.”

Ronaldo has travelled with Portugal as they prepare for the upcoming World Cup. They will kick off their campaign with a match against Ghana on November 24.
