Given Ten Hag’s success in his first season at Old Trafford, the club board is expected to back the manager in the summer transfer market.

Manchester United should ‘scrap’ Antony Martial and Wout Weghorst in the summer and sign Chelsea loanee Joao Felix, according to Gabriel Agbonlahor.

The ex-Aston Villa striker reckons Marcus Rashford is the only goal threat for Erik ten Hag’s side, but feels Felix would help with that problem.

The 23-year-old Portugal international is on loan at Chelsea from Atletico Madrid until the end of the season.

“I really like what he’s done so far at Chelsea,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider about Felix, who has scored two goals in 10 Premier League games so far.

“I’ve seen a different side to him. At Atletico Madrid, he was playing too deep and wasn’t suited to how they play. At Chelsea, you see him getting on the ball, twisting past players – and he’s got a bit of pace as well. I really like him, but he’s got to be more clinical.

“I don’t see any reason why Manchester United can’t get him. They need options if they’re back in the Champions League next season.

“Antony Martial isn’t good enough, nor is Wout Weghorst – scrap them. Antony and [Jadon] Sancho haven’t been great, so you’re talking about Rashford as their only threat.

“They need help, or it could be an embarrassing time in the Champions League for them. Joao Felix, for me, would be a good signing for them.”
