A defeat for the Red Devils on Sunday would have seen their noisy neighbors crowned the 2020/21 Premier League champions.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was pleased after Manchester United managed to delay Manchester City’s title party with a comeback win against Aston Villa.

Aston Villa took the lead inside the first 30 minutes at Villa Park on Sunday only to topple over in the second half as quickfire goals from Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood and a late strike by Edinson Cavani saw Man United seal a comfortable 3-1 victory.

The result means Solskjaer’s side remain mathematically alive in the title race, although their chances of catching the league leaders are quite low. City are on 80 points with three games left to play while United, with a game in hand, have 70 points.

“That’s a good thing, that’s the best thing with today,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports post-match. “At least I don’t drive into a blue army tonight, we’ll try to deal with it as long as we can.”

“Massive result – it takes a little bit of the pressure away, we can go into the next one confident, enjoy it. I’m delighted. It was always going to be difficult after being in Europe, didn’t come back until half four in the morning on Friday.

“We could have scored the first goal, they scored from nothing, with a good goal by the way, but I’m pleased with everyone. I know how hard it is towards the end of a long, long season.”
