The Red Devils have struggled to maintain squad depth in their backline this season.
Manchester United have reportedly added Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite to their possible targets for the centre-back spot.
The Red Devils have been dealing with a number of squad issues since the start of the season. In addition to losing Jadon Sancho and Anthony due to disciplinary issues, Erik ten Hag has seen all three of his left-back options suffer injuries.
Last week, it was revealed that Lisandro Martinez also has to stay out of action for around three months after suffering a relapse of his previous foot injury.
Man Utd came close to signing a new centre-back during the summer. But Harry Maguire’s collapsed move to West Ham forced them to start the season without a new defensive addition. However, it seems the Red Devils have changed their mind ahead of the January transfer window.
According to the Daily Mail, Branthwaite is one of United’s primary targets for the centre-back position. The 21-year-old has established himself as a starter for Toffees, making six Premier League appearances so far this season.
In addition to Branthwaite, Nice’s Jean-Clair Tobido and Benfica’s Antonio Silva remain on Man Utd’s radar ahead of the transfer window. Todibo was United’s main defensive target in the summer, but the English giants might prefer to sign a younger defender in January.
