The United goalkeeper has been called up by Cameroon to participate in the continental tournament.

Manchester United are “in talks” with Cameroon over Andre Onana’s possible participation in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Onana, who has made 37 caps for the Indomitable Lions, was included in Cameroon’s 27-man squad, announced on Thursday. However, the Red Devils are reportedly pushing to delay his departure before the tournament.

“The situation is that we’re talking, we have good relationships with all the federations,” the Dutchman said on Friday.

“It’s [also] about Sofyan Amrabat (Morocco) and Hannibal Mejbri (Tunisia) as well as Andre. We are talking with them.”

Onana could miss up to six games if he leaves before United’s FA Cup clash against Wigan Athletic. The Red Devils might have to play without their No.1 keeper against Tottenham, Wolves, West Ham, Aston Villa, and Luton Town in the Premier League.

United were linked with a few goalkeepers for a potential January move to replace Onana. However, it seems the club trust Altay Bayindir to feature during a string of crucial mid-season matches. The Turkish keeper has yet to make his debut for United since completing a €5m move from Fenerbahce in the summer.
