The England international has regained his place as a cornerstone of United’s attacking line.

Erik ten Hag has praised Marcus Rashford’s mentality and character for managing to regain his best form at Manchester United.

The English forward has gradually reached his peak form under Ten Hag since the start of the season.

Having scored in all five of United’s post-World Cup games, Rashford has established his central place in the Dutchman’s attacking plans.

Speaking about Rashford’s run of form, Ten Hag told reporters: “If it’s the right person and the right human being and the right character, they will react like this.

“Related to Marcus, I was quite convinced about it because I have known him for seven or eight months and could expect that reaction.”

As a team, Man Utd have gone down an improvement path similar to that of Rashford. Having won their last four league games, the Red Devils have reached the top four, staying four points behind second-placed Manchester City.

Asked about his side’s improved performances, Ten Hag highlighted the role of discipline in his coaching style.

“If you want to develop something, if you want to create a winning attitude and winning culture you have to go this way in my opinion,” the Man Utd boss added.

“Everyone will do it their own way. But if you allow them to be ill disciplined, if you don’t match the standards, values and rules we set together as a team and as staff, if you don’t have that togetherness in the dressing room, then it will come back and it will blow up in your face.

“On the pitch that will happen if you do not have the discipline needed to win games. It’s about big responsibility so you have to go that way.”
