The Red Devils have mostly played with a fixed group of senior stars this season.

Anthony Elanga has bemoaned his struggle for game time at Manchester United, insisting “it’s important” for him to play.

Erik ten Hag has improved Man Utd’s form significantly this season, thanks to finding a solid backbone for his starting lineup.

While Alejandro Garnacho have made a fantastic breakthrough season, a few other squad members have struggled for playing time.

In a similar situation to Scott McTominay, Elanga has slipped behind a group of in-form players who have stayed consistent all season.

The likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Garnacho are all ahead of Elanga in the pecking order.

“It’s frustrating,” the Man Utd star said (via Fabrizio Romano).

“It’s important for me to play. I’m focused on United now — then I’ll talk to the club. I like the club, but it’s important for me to play.

“I spoke to Ten Hag, I know what he wants me to do and I can only continue to train hard.”

Elanga has started only six Premier League games this season, failing to build on his solid debut season under Ralf Rangnick.

Sweden manager Janne Andersson kept Elanga on the bench in his side’s 3-0 defeat against Belgium on Friday. The Blue and Yellows will take on Azerbaijan in their next Euro 2024 qualifier on Monday.
