The Dutchman is expected to come under more pressure when the new hierarchy takes over the club.

Paul Scholes believes Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will face a real prospect of being sacked after the imminent arrival of Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

United’s new stake owner will appoint a new CEO to replace Richard Arnold, taking control of football operations after a £1.3bn investment in the club.

Changes in the hierarchy usually bring more expectations for improvement and often lead to more pressure on the team and staff. However, given Man Utd’s inconsistent run this season, Scholes believes Ratcliffe could make an early call to sack Ten Hag.

“I think for the manager, unless he gets something sorted pretty quickly, he’s going to come under huge pressure,” the Man Utd legend said (via Metro).

“I just don’t think changing is the answer, but you have to worry about it – especially when new owners come in. New owners like to bring new people in. He’ll be under big pressure if things don’t improve.”

United suffered their ninth Premier League defeat of the season against Bournemouth over the weekend. Following their upcoming match against Bayern Munich in the Champions League, Ten Hag’s men will return to the league, where they face Liverpool at Anfield next Sunday.
