The Brazil international has come under fire for his recent performances at Old Trafford.

Louis Saha believes Antony should “diversify” his game to be more effective in Manchester United’s attacking line.

Antony has struggled to live up to expectations since joining the Red Devils in the summer transfer window. The 22-year-old has scored only three goals, coming under fire for his hectic runs and positioning issues.

Saha believes Antony has become too predictable for the defenders he plays against.

“There’s a need for diversity in his game because he’s starting to become very predictable, despite the fact that he’s very skillful,” the former Man Utd star told Betfred.

“The skills that he has doesn’t provide a link with the players around him, so he needs to address that.

“He needs goals and he needs to provide a level of unpredictability, which isn’t easy to do.

“Defenders are becoming aware of his game and he’s exclusively a left-footer, so he needs to diversify his game.”

Following United’s 3-2 defeat against Arsenal last weekend, Erik ten Hag urged Antony to be “more direct”.

“When he is playing, the team is winning and that already gives a message I think how well he is performing,” Ten Hag told reporters.

“He can do better, I see space for improvement and, for instance – and I think you notice – we want him to be more direct, more involved. But the team is performing better if he is on the pitch and that is a good thing, a good base to build further on.”
