The English defender is heavily linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer.
Manchester United has reportedly rejected a £20 million ($25.8 million) offer from West Ham for Harry Maguire.
The Hammers, led by manager David Moyes, had identified Maguire as a priority target for this summer’s transfer window. However, it seems the club must now look for a new centre-back.
According to the Athletic, West Ham are unlikely to make a new bid for Maguire after United’s decision to reject their first offer for the 30-year-old.
Maguire’s situation at Old Trafford has been under scrutiny recently. He was stripped of the club captaincy by manager Erik ten Hag, with Bruno Fernandes being elected as the new captain.
Last season, Fernandes had already taken on the armband for most games, leading to Maguire’s decreased prominence in the team. Throughout the 2022-23 campaign, the English defender made just 16 appearances in the Premier League for Manchester United.
With his limited playing time, it was widely expected that Maguire might leave the club this summer. Several clubs, including Chelsea, Newcastle, and Tottenham, were linked with the England international at various points. However, West Ham became the first club to formally submit an offer.
Let’s see if Maguire’s other suitors will come forward in the remaining days of the transfer window.
