The Chelsea midfielder has emerged as a transfer priority at Old Trafford.

Chelsea have rejected Manchester United’s opening bid for Mason Mount.

The Red Devils made an official bid worth £40m earlier this week. But Chelsea seem reluctant to sell the homegrown star for such a fee.

According to Daily Telegraph, United’s first offer falls “well short” of Chelsea’s valuation of the 24-year-old. However, the Red Devils are reportedly planning to submit another bid in the coming days.

Evening Standard claims Chelsea are demanding £70m for Mount, despite the player having only a year left on his current contract.

The Blues started their lengthy negotiations with the player to extend his deal last season. However, widespread reports in English media claim he has already ruled out signing a new deal at Stamford Bridge.

Following a record-breaking transfer window last summer, Chelsea need to trim their squad ahead of the next season. New manager Mauricio Pochettino is up for a difficult task this summer as he shapes the squad to bounce back from the difficult 2022-23 campaign.

In addition to Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic are heavily linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge. Havertz is a transfer target for both Arsenal and Real Madrid, while Manchester City are eager to add Kovacic to their star-studded midfield line.
