The arrival of Mason Mount at Old Trafford could lead to Fred’s departure this summer.
Roma are reportedly eyeing a summer move for Manchester United’s Fred.
Since the arrival of Erik ten Hag last season, Fred has slipped down the pecking order in United’s midfield line. The Dutchman has regularly preferred to use the likes of Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes in front of Casemiro as his first-choice defensive midfielder.
United are also on the verge of signing Mason Mount from Chelsea. The Red Devils have agreed to meet the Blues’ £60m demand for the 24-year-old, hoping to add a new creative midfielder to their ranks.
The move will further limit Fred’s playing-time chances at Old Trafford. Man Utd are yet to receive a formal offer for the Brazilian star, but it seems that Mourinho is keen to add him to Roma’s ranks.
According to The Sun, Fred could become a cornerstone of Roma’s midfield line from the next season. Mourinho, who signed Fred for Man Utd in 2018, reportedly wants to reshape his side’s midfield line around the 30-year-old.
After reaching two consecutive European finals with Roma, Mourinho is now keen to push for the Scudetto.
Earlier this summer, the Giallorossi announced free transfers of Houssem Aouar and Evan Ndicka. The club are also heavily linked with a move for Wilfried Zaha, but they are yet to make a formal offer for the Crystal Palace forward.
