An ex-head of first-team development for the club maintains the Red Devils should prioritize bringing in a partner for Harry Maguire.
Manchester United should “go all out” to sign Raphael Varane, according to Nicky Butt.
28-year-old Varane has been on the books of Real Madrid ever since he was a teenager but he now allegedly intends to end that association.
The Frenchman continues to delay committing to fresh terms despite only a little over a year remaining on his current contract. Inaction on his part has sparked rumors that he seeks a new challenge and wants to move to the Premier League.
Manchester United are said to be closely monitoring the multiple Champions League winner’s situation. Other top clubs around Europe are also reportedly on alert – and Butt wants the Red Devils to act fast.
“The biggest thing that needs addressing for me at Manchester United this summer is that center-back position; we need a partner for Harry Maguire,” the Red Devils’ ex-head of first-team development said, speaking exclusively to Ladbrokes.
“Everyone talks about Raphael Varane. I understand he’s a little bit older than most people would perhaps like, but you just have to go back to the days of Teddy Sheringham.
“I think we bought him when he was 32, and we went and won the treble with him.
“If Varane is available, then I’d go all out for him.”
