The Cameroonian keeper has replaced David de Gea ahead of the next season.
Rio Ferdinand has backed Andre Onana to become a “great replacement” for David de Gea, hailing his ball-playing abilities.
De Gea ended his 12-year spell at Old Trafford earlier this summer, leaving the club as a free agent. The Red Devils then chose Onana as their next keeper, signing him for €51m from Inter.
Ferdinand believes the 27-year-old’s style of play fits Ten Hag’s philosophy at Man Utd.
“I think he’ll make a huge difference,” the Man Utd legend told 90min. “I think he’s got to go and prove he can be a great replacement for David de Gea, but in terms of the style, the way the manager wants to play football, I think he’s going to be huge for that because one of the best assets in his game is his feet and his playing ability.
“He’s so connected to the outfield players. He’s going to be great for a new style of football.”
Onana has so far made three appearances for the Red Devils in their friendly fixtures against Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Lens.
Ten Hag’s men will play their last pre-season game against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday before returning to the Premier League with an opening match against Wolves next week.
