The Red Devils might decide to avoid a big-money move for their next striker.

Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Aston Villa Ollie Watkins.

Finding a new No.9 seems to be one of Man Utd’s transfer priorities this summer. Harry Kane has remained the Red Devils’ first choice, with the likes of Victor Osimhen and Randal Kolo Muani also being on their radar.

However, a new report claims Man Utd are now looking to find a striker who would cost less.

According to the Athletic, Watkins’ consistency at Aston Villa has attracted interest from Man Utd ahead of the next season.

The Red Devils are reportedly “frustrated” by the massive price tags of their striker targets. Even Rasmus Hojlund could cost the Red Devils around £86m this summer.

Watkins is under contract at Aston Villa until 2025. The club are under no pressure to sell him this summer, but most observers believe they would be open to selling him for around £27m.

Last season, Watkins scored 15 goals in his 37 league appearances as Villa finished seventh in the Premier League. United have been reportedly scouting Watkins in recent months, but they won’t make a final decision on his transfer before Erik ten Hag returns from vacation.

The Dutchman will rejoin the Man United squad ahead of their friendly match against Leeds United in Norway on July 12.
