The Red Devils are planning to continue bolstering their backline next summer.

Manchester United are reportedly planning to activate Kim Min-Jae’s release clause at Napoli next summer.

Since joining Napoli in July, the South Korea international has become a cornerstone of the Blues’ backline under Luciano Spalletti.

Kim’s performances have attracted interest from a number of elite clubs. However, a clause in his Napoli contract has reportedly convinced Man Utd to intensify their efforts to secure his signature.

According to Corriere dello Sport, a £42 million release clause to sign Kim will be activated for 15 days next summer.

According to the Italian source, Napoli are eager to renew the centre-back’s contract before the next transfer window. However, they are yet to reach an agreement with the player’s representatives.

Napoli have registered Serie A’s best defensive and attacking numbers so far this season. Spalletti’s men have conceded only 15 goals in the Italian top flight so far, with a duo of Kim and Amir Rrahmani playing in the centre of their backline.

Man Utd added Lisandro Martinez to their defensive options last summer. However, reduced game time for Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire could see both defenders leave Old Trafford next summer.

A move for Kim will also provide more competition for the likes of Martinez and Raphael Varane as United’s main centre-backs.
