With the transfer deadline looming, Man Utd have splashed the cash to sign Antony from Ajax.

Manchester United have confirmed an agreement with Ajax to sign winger Antony.

The transfer is subject to a medical, international clearance, and the player’s personal terms being finalized.

While United didn’t disclose the final transfer fee in their statement, various reports claim it to be worth €100 million. The Red Devils will pay Ajax €95 million upfront and a further €5 million in bonuses.

In doing so, Antony will become the second most expensive transfer ever in the club’s history behind Paul Pogba, who left Old Trafford to rejoin Juventus this summer – six years after his record €105 million arrival from the Italian side.

Antony managed 24 goals and 22 assists in 82 appearances for Ajax. The 22-year-old joined the Dutch champions from Sao Paulo in 2020. He played under Erik ten Hag until June this year, before the coach left Amsterdam to become United’s manager for the new season.

The nine-time Brazil international has won two Dutch Eredivisie titles and a gold medal in the 2020 Summer Olympics.

Antony is unlikely, however, to feature when Man Utd visit Leicester City in the Premier League on Thursday as he waits for a work permit.
