The Red Devils added a new striker to their ranks after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
Besiktas have confirmed Manchester United paid them €2.825m in compensation for Wout Weghorst’s transfer.
Weghorst was spending a loan deal from Burnley at the Turkish side. However, he accepted a mid-season from Man Utd to replace Cristiano Ronaldo in their squad.
Confirming the Dutch star’s exit, Besiktas revealed United’s compensation fee for terminating Weghorst’s loan contract.
“Due to the early termination of the contract by Burnley, a termination fee of €2.825m will be paid to our Company,” an official statement from the Turkish side read.
Man Utd are responsible for Weghorst’s wages until the end of the current season. However, there is no option for the Red Devils to make the 30-year-old’s move permanent.
The English giants officially confirmed Weghorst’s arrival on Saturday.
“I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United,” the former Wolfsburg star said. “I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt.
“I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims.
“Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.
“I thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to this stage. Now I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting involved straight away.”
