Manchester United and Chelsea have reportedly joined Bayern Munich in the race for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.

Bayern Munich are long-term admirers of in-demand Borussia Monchengladbach holding midfielder Denis Zakaria but will face stiff competition from the Premier League giants.

Manchester United and Chelsea will go in for the Switzerland international next summer, as per German outlet Bild.

Zakaria’s contract at Borussia-Park runs out in summer 2022, but the Foals are asking for £45million to let go of him nonetheless.

With Monchengladbach sticking to their guns, the Red Devils and the Blues will have to dig deep into their pockets to close the deal.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the most consistent midfielders in the Bundesliga since joining from Young Boys in 2017.

He has since clocked up 96 appearances for Gladbach and has also earned 28 caps for Switzerland since making his international debut in 2016.

Despite bringing in seven new faces in the summer, Frank Lampard is still keen on reinforcing the deep-lying midfield area.

Jorginho and N’Golo Kante remain the Englishman’s favored options in that area, though both could be on their way out of Stamford Bridge.

Declan Rice is a dream, but West Ham continue to play hardball over the highly-rated defensive midfielder.

On the other hand, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wasn’t as near active in the summer window as his Chelsea counterpart.

He has still managed to capture the signature of Donny van de Beek to add to his well-stocked midfield.

But, with Paul Pogba’s future hanging in the balance, the Norwegian manager may need to dip into the market for a new midfield option again.
