United’s second-choice goalkeeper hopes to get more playing time in the upcoming weeks.

Andre Onana came under fire for another poor display after Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday. The Cameroon goalkeeper was seemingly responsible for two goals as the Red Devils’ chances of qualifying for the knockout stage suffered another significant blow.

Onana’s form has raised serious doubts about his role in Erik ten Hag’s squad. Some commentators have already called on the Dutchman to look for a new No.1 goalkeeper. However, United will most likely opt for an internal solution before monitoring the transfer market for a new keeper.

On Thursday, Altay Bayindir’s agent revealed his client’s ambitious plans for his career at Old Trafford.

“He wants to take over as the new number one keeper before Onana goes to the AFCON. That’s his goal,” he told Sport Digitale.

Bayindir was signed on a £4.3m deal in the summer transfer window, a month after the club’s £47.2m move for Onana. The Turkish goalkeeper arrived at Old Trafford after a successful spell at Fenerbahce, where he made a total of 145 appearances and kept 44 clean sheets.

Despite his performance against Galatasaray, Onana is expected to start for United in their upcoming league game against Newcastle. A report from ESPN claims that Ten Hag still sees the 27-year-old as a suitable keeper for his playing style at Man Utd.
