Erik ten Hag’s men bounced back from their heavy defeat against Liverpool to beat Betis.

Manchester United defeated Real Betis 4-1 in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie on Thursday. A fantastic attacking display in the second half secured Man Utd’s home win.

A statement victory

Man Utd came into the game on the back of their 7-0 defeat against Liverpool during the weekend.

The Red Devils came under immense pressure for their Anfield performance. However, they soon showed their desire to bounce back against Betis.

Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the Red Devils in the sixth minute. The England international latched onto a pass inside the box before making it 1-0 for the Red Devils with a powerful shot.

The Red Devils pushed to extend their lead, but Betis managed to get back into the game later in the first half. Ayoze Perez scored a brilliant low shot to make 1-1 for the visitors.

However, Ten Hag’s men managed to restore their lead only seven minutes into the second half. Antony scored a stunning long-range box from the left edge of the box to make it 2-0 for the Red Devils.

Bruno Fernandes then scored Man Utd’s third goal of the night to secure their home victory in the 58th minute.

The Red Devils decreased the pace of the game after the goal. However, that didn’t stop Wout Weghorst from adding his name to the scoreline toward the end of the game.

Following a blocked shot from Scott McTominay, the Dutchman smashed home the rebound to make it 4-1 for United in the 82nd minute.

The two sides will meet again in the second leg next Thursday. Before then, however, United return to the Premier League to face Southampton.
