United’s unbeaten run on home soil came to an abrupt end.
Manchester United defeated Brighton 3-1 in their Premier League game on Saturday. A brilliant attacking display ensured the Seagulls’ victory at Old Trafford.
What happened?
Brighton started the game on the front foot as they controlled the possession early on. The visitors’ bravery paid off when Danny Welbeck put them ahead in the 20th minute.
United pushed hard to get back into the game before the break. But the closest they got was a disallowed goal by Rasmus Hojlund.
Brighton then dealt another massive blow to United’s comeback dreams only eight minutes into the second period. Pascal Gross converted a brilliant short pass from Tariq Lamptey inside the box to make it 2-0 for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.
Erik ten Hag’s substitutions failed to change the course of the game as Brighton scored their third goal of the night in the 71st minute. Another assist from Lamptey saw Joao Pedro make it 3-0 with a stunning strike from inside the box.
Hannibal Mejbri pulled one back for the hosts only two minutes later. But it was too late for Ten Hag’s side to escape the defeat.
