United leapfrogged Chelsea from the Premier League’s fifth spot by claiming a narrow win at Old Trafford.

Manchester United defeated West Ham 1-0 in their Premier League game on Sunday. A hard-fought win saw the Red Devils continue their eight-match unbeaten run across all competitions.

Ronaldo and Maguire return to lineup!

Erik ten Hag started the game with two surprise picks for the lineup. Cristiano Ronaldo continued his role upfront after his midweek display against Sheriff, while Harry Maguire returned to the Red Devils’ backline.

Man Utd struggled to penetrate West Ham’s defence line throughout the first period, finding few chances to score. However, they finally managed to break the deadlock in the 38th minute, scoring the opener through Marcus Rashford.

Following an inch-perfect cross from Christian Eriksen, Rashford flew high above West Ham’s defenders to score his 100th Man Utd goal with a powerful header.

The Red Devils continued their attacks to seal the victory in the second period. However, West Ham managed to hold on to their defensive integrity while looking for counter-attacks.

The Hammers came close to scoring several times in the final 20 minutes. But missed chances from Declan Rice and Pablo Fornals saw the London side settle for the 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford.

The victory sends Man Utd to the fifth spot in the Premier League table, two points above Chelsea. Ten Hag’s men will return to Europa League to play their last group-stage game against Real Sociedad on Thursday.
