Manchester United should be looking at signing a right-back to provide competition for Wan-Bissaka, says former Red Devil Fabio da Silva.

Manchester United should be putting the addition of another right-back high on their priority list ahead of the summer. Fabio da Silva believes proper competition could further bring the best out of Aaron Wan-Bissaka.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made some defensive additions ahead of the 2020-21 campaign.

Exciting Brazilian left-back Alex Telles was snapped up from Porto, with the 28-year-old arriving at Old Trafford with a good reputation to his name.

The presence of the South American has been a positive one, with Luke Shaw improving his game by far this season. Without exaggeration, the once criticized player has been one of the best left-backs in the Premier League this season.

Fabio believes similar success could be achieved with Wan-Bissaka if the club bring in competition for the 23-year-old at right-back.

The former Red Devils full-back told the Manchester Evening News: “If you see how Luke Shaw is doing this season, I think it’s the best season he’s been having for so long at Man United. Telles has made him improve, someone to say ‘if you’re not playing well, if you’re not concentrating, working hard, you’re going to lose your place.”

“This definitely makes you play better, so for Wan-Bissaka if they bring in a good right-back, you’re going to help him to improve.”

“One hundred per cent, this is what makes players compete for their place, and to improve. If you play every game, you have no competition and you can start to get in a comfort zone, it’s not good for you.”

While mentioning the need for competition to rival Wan-Bissaka, the former United defender admitted the 23-year-old has upped his game this season.

Fabio added: “I think he’s already improved, to be honest.”

“I watch a lot of Man United, I follow them, and before he arrived I thought as an offensive full-back for United, he’s not going to do it.”

“Everyone knew he was a great defender, his positioning is good, but at the beginning I thought: ‘I don’t know.”

“But now, really, he has improved a lot. He can still improve more, he is young, but now he’s a much better offensive player than when he arrived. So if he keeps improving, he will be a fantastic player, I really like him.”
