Ally McCoist believes now is the time for Manchester United to let go of their star man Paul Pogba and move on from the player.
The future of Paul Pogba is up in the air once again and Ally McCoist thinks United might have to let him go.
Four years on and the Frenchman is yet to deliver on the promise that saw the Red Devils splash a then world-record €105m fee on a player they sold to Juventus for free.
An inconsistent stint has left many doubting if the player would ever attain the height of his powers while at Old Trafford.
It hasn’t helped that Pogba has on many occasions flirted with the idea of joining a certain Real Madrid managed by fellow compatriot Zinedine Zidane.
It’s been a poor season for the Frenchman and he has even seen himself become a second-string player of late.
His international manager, Didier Deschamps, made it clear Pogba ‘can’t be happy about‘ his role at Old Trafford this term.
Bruno Fernandes has been pulling the strings for United of late and has majorly been deployed alongside McTominay and Fred. All of these and other reasons make McCoist feel United should let the Frenchman leave.
“There is absolutely no doubting the talent Paul Pogba has,” McCoist said on talkSPORT when asked about Pogba’s future.
“But is he getting in the team ahead of Fernandes? No.
“Clearly Manchester United’s better performances have been with McTominay and Fred sitting and Fernandes in that number ten role.
“So can Fernandes and Pogba play in the same team? Look, they probably can; but does it get the best out of Man United? Probably not.”
“So with that in mind, if you are only going to pick one of them there is only one you can pick at this moment in time – and that’s clearly not Pogba.”
“So is it time for the parties to part ways? I think it might be.”
“Some people have thrown out that he might not be motivated by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer; crikey, you are playing for Manchester United and that’s a motivation itself!”
“Listen, it’s clear there is a problem there and there’s been a problem there for some time, so if you ask me is it time for both parties to go their own ways – I’d say it probably is.”
