Red Devils’ summer signing had tested positive for the virus for a second time over the weekend but has been given the all-clear now.

Alex Telles is clear to feature against Uruguay on Tuesday after testing negative for coronavirus, Brazil Football Confederation has confirmed.

Reports emerged in Brazil earlier this week that the full-back had returned yet another positive test for the virus, having previously been diagnosed and recovered from the illness at the start of the month.

The 27-year-old undertook a period of self-isolation and could only play once for Manchester United after joining the club in a €15 million transfer from FC Porto over the summer.

It was also claimed that he would miss his nation’s World Cup qualifier in Montevideo and several games for Man United after the international break.

However, United were handed a boost when it was confirmed that on Tuesday that Telles has tested negative.

“The defender already had the disease, was asymptomatic and with a non-transmissible condition of the virus, but he could not travel to Uruguay,” an update on Brazilian Football Confederation’s website read.

“On the last exam, however, Telles’ test came back negative and the defender was released for the game.”

Telles’ availability for the Premier League match against West Brom will come as a huge relief for Man United with left-back Luke Shaw sidelined due to a hamstring injury.
