The new Red Devils boss is on a mission to rebuild the team this summer.

Erik ten Hag has backed Manchester United to pursue a deal for Villarreal’s Pau Torres.

The Dutch manager starts his job at Old Trafford alongside assistants Mitchell van der Gaag and Steve McClaren. His first mission would be to oversee the club’s reported summer overhaul.

English sources have reported that as many as ten United players are preparing to leave the Red Devils this summer. Ten Hag must fill this massive gap in the squad based on his plans for the next season.

The club were keen to sign Pau Torres last summer, but the Spaniard ended up staying at Villarreal. According to 90min, United have remained interested in adding the defender to their squad, with Ten Hag green lighting the move.

The Red Devils’ manager is reportedly looking to provide Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire with more competition.

On the other hand, the club might approve Victor Lindelof’s departure if they receive the ‘right offer’ for the defender.
In addition to United, Chelsea and Tottenham are also in the race to sign Torres. The two transfer rivals can offer Champions League football to the Villarreal star, but United are still leading the race.

Villarreal has tied Torres down to a £55m release clause in his contract. However, United will reportedly push to sign the defender for a fee of around £45m.
