The Red Devils have confirmed they have excluded the youngster from their team until further notice.
On Sunday morning, Mason Greenwood’s girlfriend Harriet Robson published disturbing images of domestic abuse by his partner on social media. Soon after, Manchester United confirmed they were aware of the posts, which were deleted by Robson after a few hours.
In a new statement, the club announced their decision over excluding Greenwood from their squad.
“Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice,” the club’s official statement reads.
“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
BBC have claimed Greater Manchester Police has arrested Greenwood on suspicion of rape and assault. Police confirmed on Sunday afternoon that it has taken “a man in his 20s” into its custody amid the ongoing inquiries.
A graduate of United’s academy, Greenwood is one of the most promising young players in the Premier League. The 20-year-old has scored 35 goals in his 129 for the Red Devils.
United will return to action on Friday as they take on Middlesbrough in the FA Cup. They will then meet Burnley in their next Premier League game four days later.
