Romelu Lukaku could make Manchester United regret letting him go by knocking them out of Europa League, suggests Dimitar Berbatov.
Romelu Lukaku remained a subject of criticism for fans and critics alike throughout his two-year stint at Manchester United.
The Belgium international put up a decent tally of 42 goals in 96 games, but certain aspects of his game left for wanting more, such as inability to make much impact in big games.
He was sold to Inter Milan prior to the start of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s first full managerial season.
The striker has been in inspiring form for Inter, scoring 31 goals in 49 matches so far in his debut season.
Inter are set to clash against Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals of Europa League, while Man United will face Sevilla.
If things go according to the script, Lukaku could go against his former team in the final of the competition. And if such a situation arrives, says Dimitar Berbatov, he would not hesitate to cause an upset for the team that devalued him.
“Lukaku is a concern for me, he’s scored 23 goals for Inter this season which is a great achievement. He’s the main danger for whoever they play against,” Berbatov told Betfair.
“Inter also have Alexis Sanchez and Ashley Young, who will know United very well. If they play United in the final, these players will want revenge, to show United that they were wrong to let them go.
“Lukaku would love the chance to bang in some goals against the team that let him go.”
