The Magpies are willing to make a January move for the United forward.
Jesse Lingard returned from a successful West Ham loan deal to finally find his place in Manchester United’s lineup. The London side were happy to make his contract stay, but the Red Devils preferred to give him another chance.
Six months later, Lingard has gone through another period of poor form, struggling to get minutes under Ralf Rangnick. The English forward has made eight appearances for the Red Devils this season, none of them from the starting lineup.
Newcastle have been eying a move for Lingard in recent months as they look for recruitment in their attacking unit. The Magpies have now decided to persuade the player with a lucrative wage offer.
According to 90min, Newcastle are planning to make Lingard their top-paid player. The Magpies are reportedly looking to sign the Englishman on a loan deal, with United not preventing a move. The Times has also confirmed Newcastle’s interest in Lingard, claiming they are preparing a £2 million loan fee for the player.
However, Lingard himself has repeatedly expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford. A loan deal will mostly depend on whether the Magpies can persuade the player to join them this winter.
Newcastle are having a busy transfer window, trying to improve their relegation-battling team for the second half of the campaign. In case a move for Lingard falls through, Eddie Howe’s side will most likely try to sign Chelsea’s Ross Barkley or Tottenham’s Dele Alli.
