Nemanja Matic has announced his upcoming departure from Manchester United.
Manchester United will see one of their experienced midfielders leave the club next summer.
Nemanja Matic has made 183 appearances for the Red Devils since joining the Red Devils from Chelsea in 2017. The ex-Serbia international announced his decision to leave Old Trafford on his Instagram account.
He wrote: “After a great deal of thought, I have decided that this season will be my last with Manchester United. I have informed the board, the manager and the players of my decision.
“It has been a huge honour and a privilege to play for this great club. A big thank you to the fans for their unwavering support.
“I will now give everything until the end of the season to help my teammates finish as strongly as possible.”
Manchester United are in the midst of a midfield overhaul, with Matic’s departure providing Ralf Rangnick with another vacancy in his squad.
The midfield duo of Fred and Scott McTominay have struggled to maintain consistency with their performances, while Paul Pogba‘s future is still uncertain.
Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard will also see their contract expire next summer, with no signs of potential contract renewals. The possible arrival of Eric ten Hag could revive the playing chances of Donny van de Beek, who’s been out on loan at Everton since January.
