The Red Devils have confirmed the departure of Jesse Lingard ahead of the summer transfer window.

Jesse Lingard will leave Manchester United when his contract expires in June.

The Red Devils announced Lingard’s departure hours after they confirmed Paul Pogba will leave Old Trafford as a free agent.

The English forward ends his spell at the club after making 232 first-team appearances for the Red Devils.

An official statement from the club reads: “Manchester United can confirm that Jesse Lingard will leave the club when his contract expires at the end of June.

“An Academy graduate and dyed-in-the-wool Red, Jesse has been with United for over 20 years, having originally joined our Under-9s team in 2001.”

Following his development in United’s youth system, Lingard finally broke into the Red Devils’ first team in 2014. He went on to become a regular senior-team star during the 2015-16 campaign, making 40 appearances for the club.

Despite his struggles for consistency, Lingard remained an important player for United under Jose Mourinho and Louis van Gaal.

However, the arrival of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer saw the young forward gradually losing his place in United’s lineup. The Red Devils loaned Lingard out to West Ham in January 2021, with the player regaining his best form under David Moyes.

The Hammers pushed to make Lingard’s deal permanent, but United refused to sell him. However, upon returning to the club, Lingard failed to re-establish his place in the squad, making only 22 games for the Red Devils last season.

According to English sources, West Ham and Newcastle have shown interest in signing the 29-year-old as a free agent.
