Old Trafford was the place where Granada visited Man United in the Europa League quarterfinals. We got the player ratings.
Man United had a complicated visit from Granada in the second Europa League quarterfinal leg at Old Trafford. Even though they won the first leg in Spain with a comfortable 0-2 victory, you just can never feel too sure of what you get with Spanish sides. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wanted to make sure his players didn’t underestimate this Granada squad at the Theatre of Dreams.
They got an early lead from a man who is finally starting to get his groove in front of goal: Edinson Cavani. It happened during a moment in which Paul Pogba set him up with a header that allowed him to get a proper volley in the back of the net. With this goal, the aggregate scoreline was already 3-0. But Solskjaer still wanted more from his players this time around. The second half would be filled with chances from a squad led by both Pogba and Bruno.
Vallejo seals the win for United.
After a long second half with mostly chances for Manchester United but no luck, the Red Devils found another opening. As the game got near the final whistle, a precise cross from the left that Juan Mata found was deviated by Vallejo. The goal was given to the Granada defender and United won the match with a 4-0 aggregate.
With this victory, the Red Devils reach the semifinals against AS Roma. Another massive Champions League confrontation that reminds us of the knock-out stages from the Ronaldo days at Old Trafford. The Italian club defeated Ajax with a 3-2 aggregate but they completely deserved the result. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer keeps his players’ dreams of getting continental silverware alive.
