Old Trafford was the place where Man United wanted to get back to the top against Sheffield United. We got tonight’s player ratings.

Manchester United had a great chance to get back to the top of the Premier League tonight against Sheffield United. Old Trafford was an ideal place for the Red Devils to continue their rise as one of the best football clubs in the Premier League. With Manchester City back at the top in the same amount of matches played, United couldn’t fail this evening against the Blades. It was a complicated one for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s players, to say the least.

For starters, David de Gea made some important saves in the first half but he did fail on Sheffield’s biggest chance where Bryan scored the opening goal through a header. United’s defense was a total disaster during this specific set-piece for the visiting squad. Ole wasn’t able to find the ideal balance in the attacking trio, especially with Greenwood and Martial.

Sheffield and Burke stun United.

After the break, Harry Maguire made up for his defensive mistakes in the first half through the equalizer. Another header was the way in which the Red Devils got back in the game. However, the Blades were always threatening due to Tuanzebe and Maguire’s poor defending. In fact, the young English defender was the one who got in the way of De Gea’s sight during Sheffield’s second goal.

Burke released a potent strike that David could’ve saved if Tuanzebe wasn’t right in the crosshairs. A disappointing loss for the Red Devils that compromises their attempt to keep fighting for the title this season. Manchester City can rest easy knowing they have some room to maneuver at the top of the Premier League table.
