Old Trafford was the place for this Derby between Man United and Man City for the Carabao Cup semifinal. We have player ratings.

The Carabao Cup semifinal gave us a city derby between Man City and Man United at Old Trafford. An exciting night for football all over Europe that gave us some thrilling moments between these two clubs. Although they had a relatively leveled first half with no goals, the action was coming after the break. Contrary to other seasons where Guardiola’s squads dominate, things are very different now.

Pep finally understood that winning sometimes is more important than playing beautiful football. Today, he knew that getting to the final was way more paramount than playing tiki-taka. John Stones scored the first goal through a set-piece right after the break to give City the lead.

Solskjaer couldn’t break City’s defense.

Despite having many chances created through Pogba and Bruno, Manchester United wasn’t able to complete the comeback. They didn’t even score a single goal, although they did have some interesting passages. In the end, Fernandinho sealed the ticket to the Carabao Cup final after another set-piece from the corner. A well-placed volley from the outskirts of the box was enough for the Citizens to win at Old Trafford. With this victory, we will get another edition of the Mourinho vs Guardiola rivalry in a final.
