The Blues won their first Serie A title in 33 years on Thursday, but celebrations were marred by a tragic incident.

A 26-year-old man was shot dead during Napoli’s Serie A title celebration on Thursday night.

According to La Repubblica, the victim was named Vincenzo Costanzo. He was hurt in the Piazza Volturno area of Naples during a shootout involving three other people, including his girlfriend. He later passed away at the Antonio Cardarelli hospital.

As for the other three, the Italian newspaper added that they were also wounded, but their injuries are not serious.

Naples Prefect Claudio Palomba has told RAI radio that the shootout had nothing to do with the football celebrations. He added seven individuals were hurt, with some sustaining firework-related injuries.

Mr. Palomba’s comments come in stark contrast to a claim from La Stampa. The newspaper alleged that over 200 people ended up in the hospital, all injured from the celebrations.

Napoli sealed their first Serie A title since 1990 on Thursday by securing a decisive point in a 1-1 draw away to Udinese.

The visiting supporters rushed onto the pitch to celebrate after the final whistle, while those in Naples flooded the streets to mark the occasion.
