The second big derby on Sunday evening takes place in northwest England as Premier League title rivals Manchester City and Manchester United lock horns.

Local pride is at stake in Greater Manchester in a clash that both sides are determined to not lose for different reasons. City have a record-breaking run to continue, while United desperately need all three points to keep their fading title hopes alive.

It could be another close and intriguing affair. The visitors, who have won three of the last six meetings with City in all competitions, can make life difficult for Pep Guardiola’s men and have a solid away record – but will that be enough?

Manchester City Form & Stats

The Citizens’ statistics are mind-blowing, to say the least. 21 wins in a row, including 15 in the Premier League, have come their way. Perhaps the more frightening fact is that 12 of those victories were away from home. It’s an extraordinary record and one they won’t want to end at the hands of Manchester United.

Another testament to City’s excellence is their 28-match unbeaten run in all competitions and that they have only fallen behind once in this period. The champions-elect are the full package right now, with the league’s best goal and defensive records as well.

Since that 5-2 howler against Leicester in September, City have been almost untouchable at the Etihad. 15 wins have come in their last 17 home games (D2) in all competitions and 11 of them were by at least a two-goal margin. Despite Guardiola’s rotations, they keep finding a way and could move 15 points clear at the top of the Premier League on Sunday.

Key Team Stats
  • Won 21 games in a row, scored 55 goals and conceded only 8.
  • Won their last 15 league games.
  • BTTS in 3 of their last 4 league games.
  • Sergio Aguero has only scored 1 goal in his last 8 appearances against Manchester United.
  • Ederson has already kept 15 clean sheets in the league.

Manchester United Form & Stats

It’s amazing how quickly things can change, isn’t it? To think Manchester United were the Premier League leaders on January 25, but now trail City by a massive 14 points in third-place at the beginning of March. If they’re to launch a title comeback, a victory at the Etihad is a must.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can upset the odds in this derby, having won three of their last four visits to City in all competitions (L1). They’re also the only Premier League club to stay unbeaten on the road with eight wins and six draws in 14 away games.

Three successive 0-0 stalemates at home to Real Sociedad in the Europa League and away to Chelsea and Crystal Palace in the league is somewhat underwhelming. Three clean sheets is always a plus, but United’s lack of spark in the attack is a worry – especially against City’s solid defense.

Key Team Stats
  • Settled for 0-0 draws in their last 3 games in all competitions.
  • Drawn 5 of their last 8 league games (W2 L1).
  • Unbeaten in their last 21 away league games (W13, D8).
  • Haven’t beaten a ‘Big Six’ club in the league this season.
  • Won 3 of their last 4 away games against Manchester City in all competitions (L1).
