The Premier League champions are confident of beating Brighton in a race to sign Valentin Barco.

Manchester City have reportedly made an £8 million move to sign the highly touted Argentine talent, Valentin Barco, from Boca Juniors.

According to the Daily Star, Pep Guardiola’s side are determined to outmanoeuvre the competition for the promising South American star.

Brighton, known for their knack for unearthing South American gems, were also keenly interested in Barco. This development could intensify the rivalry between the two clubs, both vying for the services of this budding talent.

Over the past few years, Brighton has consistently demonstrated its scouting prowess in South America. This summer alone, the Seagulls negotiated high-profile transfers, selling midfielders Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo to Liverpool and Chelsea, respectively, for a staggering combined fee of £150 million. The potential for additional earnings from add-ons in Mac Allister’s deal only enhances Brighton’s reputation as shrewd deal-makers.

Valentin Barco has undoubtedly been one of the standout prospects at Boca Juniors in Argentina, attracting interest from several top European clubs. Alongside Brighton, Serie A giants Juventus had also expressed a strong interest in securing the services of the young Argentine.

Manchester City’s pursuit of Barco reflects their longstanding history of successful signings from Argentina. With Julian Alvarez already on their roster, the Citizens are looking to further bolster their Argentine contingent.
