A number of members of the Sky Blues team have taken to a period of self-isolation after testing positive for coronavirus.

Manchester City will have at least five players unavailable for their upcoming Premier League, Pep Guardiola confirmed on Friday.

Gabriel Jesus and Kyle Walker are among those who will miss the trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday with the pair in self-isolation since Christmas Day after returning positive COVID-19 tests.

Three more players contracted the virus after the Newcastle match causing City’s subsequent game against Everton to be called off.

After further testing, the team were allowed to resume training on Wednesday and they will have two more sets of test results ahead of Sunday’s clash.

“Five right now,” Guardiola responded when quizzed how many players will be missing for the Chelsea game, via Sky Sports.

“Five players are isolating for 10 days and some of them, the first cases that were released, it was four people – two players – and three more the second time.”
