The Citizens are keen to find a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, who joined Arsenal earlier this summer.

Manchester City have reportedly shown interest in signing Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez.

The Citizens pushed to add Brighton’s Marc Cucurella to their ranks earlier this summer.

However, Brighton’s reported demand of £50m has convinced the Citizens to look for other options. Chelsea have intensified their efforts to hijack Cucurella’s move and are close to finalising a deal for the Spaniard.

City have now shifted their focus toward another Spanish defender ahead of the new season.

According to Goal, Sergio Gomez has emerged as a transfer priority at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund star made 49 appearances under Man City legend Vincent Kompany at Anderlecht last season.

The La Masia graduate claimed the club’s Player of the Year award as Anderlecht finished third in the Belgian league.

Gomez will join the likes of Nathan Ake, Joao Cancelo and Josh Wilson-Esbrand as City’s left-back options if he moves to Etihad.

Speaking about the possibility of adding a new left-back to his squad, Guardiola said: “If it’s possible [to strengthen we will] but if not, we stay with the players we have.

“Joao can play there, Josh can play there, Nathan can play there. I never complain about the squad I have since the first season. It is always for the benefit of the club, not for me, and I support the club.”
