An ex-Man City player is open to the Barcelona living legend joining the club but suggests a lot needs to be figured out before that happens.
Lionel Messi pushed for an exit from FC Barcelona over the summer following a disastrous trophy-less season for the club.
The Argentine eventually made a U-turn on his initial decision, but that has not stopped rumors from continuing to link him with a move away.
His current contract expires in 2021, and Manchester City are considered at the front of the queue to seal his transfer should the 33-year-old decide against extending his stay at Camp Nou.
A reunion with Pep Guardiola, under whom he won 14 of his 34 trophies at Barca including a sensational sextuple, is supposedly an interesting prospect for Messi.
Gael Clichy is open to seeing the six-time Ballon d’Or winner at the Etihad but is not entirely sure whether Man City should bring him in.
Clichy told Stadium Astro: “Can he do it in England? I believe he can because quality is quality and he will have a team shaped around him. He can be a success.
“Is it risky? Yes, it is. Time will tell. Can City do better? If they can, maybe they can attract someone like Messi.”
“Do the fans want him at the club? Obviously. Does the manager want him? Probably. The president? Probably.
“Would he be a plus for English football? Definitely. Can he cope with the schedule and the weather? Who knows.
“You think about [Kevin] De Bruyne, Messi, [Raheem] Sterling and [Sergio] Aguero all together, you are dreaming. Would it be the right solution? I’m not sure.”
