Both Barcelona and Real Madrid are keen to sign the Manchester City star.

La Liga powerhouses Barcelona and Real Madrid are both eyeing Manchester City’s Argentine forward, Julian Alvarez, in a bid to bolster their squads.

Barcelona, despite their acquisitions in the last summer transfer window, are still in need of cover for essential positions in the starting lineup, primarily in the striker and midfield pivot roles.

Currently, Robert Lewandowski is the only natural center-forward in Xavi’s squad, while the midfield pivot position sees limited options, primarily occupied by Oriol Romeu.

Barcelona has expressed interest in Alvarez, previously attempting to secure his services on loan with a purchase option. Although the deal didn’t come to fruition, the club’s coaching staff and sporting department continue to admire the Argentine forward.

However, it’s not only Barcelona that seeks Alvarez’s signature. According to SPORT, Real Madrid has also entered the race, signaling their intention to sign the versatile forward. They view him as a suitable replacement for Karim Benzema.

Alvarez has reportedly shown a preference to play in Spain, and his growing importance in the Manchester City squad has enhanced his reputation this season. Yet, with Erling Haaland firmly established as City’s primary striker, Alvarez has faced challenges, leading to reported frustration in the past.

Manchester City has demonstrated their confidence in Alvarez by extending his contract until 2028 without a release clause. Ultimately, the player’s decision will determine his destination, with his desire for regular starting opportunities playing a crucial role in the decision-making process, a choice he will most likely make at the end of the current season.
